A short history of the house.

Updated: Dec 17, 2019

The Dunehouse is a one of a kind experience and place to stay. There is nowhere so homely and so close to the Saharan Dunes. Built and owned by a Local desert family the house is designed with as much natural and local handicraft as possible, bright and vibrant Berber and Bedouin materials, combining the simplicity of desert life and the luxury of private and exclusive accommodation.

Originally used for storing the older style of bedouin camping tents that were constructed and taken down everyday for tourists in the early 2000s, the house - at that point one large flat room - then became a small restaurant which is where the flare for saharan cuisine began.

In the house hangs the famous Touareg proverb << Travel is the thing you buy, that makes you richer >>

With over 30 years experience in the Moroccan tourist industry, the owner of the house gradually expanded and created the house for himself to live in but also to host those looking to travel and explore Morocco far from the madding crowd . The result? An unusually shaped property combining traditional mud and straw exterior construction and eclectic subsaharan

and traditional moroccan interior design

Making the house a home.

Not only does the house serve as a beautiful place to take a private holiday as close to the

Moroccan Sahara as possible, it is a communal space that has welcomed the local community to meet, greet and cook. Situated close to the first village along the road of the dunes Hassilibied, the house showcases local handicraft included embroidery from the womens association, aswell as providing work opportunities and international exposure for all types of local talent and skill. Creating a space to merge nomadic traditions and understanding of the land and sky the region is blessed with an international clientele. And in other words - a great BBQ spot for all to enjoy!
